The Nomination

My name is Emma McVeigh. 11 years ago, at the age of 16, I was diagnosed with Leukaemia. I have had a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and donor lymphocyte infusions. Despite all of the treatment I am still currently fighting Leukaemia.

During my treatment over the last 11 years I have been very fortunate to have the support of 5 fantastic charities. They are Anthony Nolan, Bloodwise, CLIC Sargent, Teenage Cancer Trust and Willow. In last few years I have been carrying out some fundraising to be able to say thank you to these amazing charities, and to be able to give back, enabling them to help others in a similar situation. I was absolutely delighted when I found out that Mr Brown, from New Duston Garage, had nominated me to receive a donation. Thank you so much choosing me as this month's recipient. I am touched by your very generous donation, it really will make a huge difference to these wonderful charities.

About the Charity

Forever Stars is a charity that was set up by Michelle and Richard Daniels following the tragic loss of their beautiful baby daughter Emily, when she was stillborn on the 19th December 2013 at the Queen's Medical Hospital in Nottingham.

In April 2016, Forever Stars successfully raised £115,000.00 to build and equip the 'Serenity Suite' a bereavement suite for parents of stillborn babies and neonatal baby loss at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. Although this was originally where the project was going to end, a number of parents contacted the charity to ask for help to raise money for a similar facility for the City Hospital in Nottingham. The cost for this project is in excess of £80,000 and it is hoped that they can raise the money and start the building project by May 2017.

At The Anthony Seddon Fund, we have lived experience of mental illness and its effects. We know how quickly it can take hold, no matter how long you have lived with it. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, we won't ask you to make an appointment or put your name on a waiting lust. We are here to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where we can start supporting you immediately.

The Nomination

This nomination was received from Guide Bridge Garage based in Ashton Under Lyne.

Anthony was a lovely, warm young man with a brilliant sense of humour and a smile that could light up the room. He was a popular, energetic and intelligent lad, who sadly struggled with with bi-polar disorder from the age of 18. Following a 12 year battle with the disorder, constantly in and out of hospital, coping with the debilitating side effects of strong medications, he sadly died on 31st March 2013 three days after taking a large overdose of pills. He was only 30 years old, having spent his entire adult life struggling with the physical, emotional and social consequences of mental illness.

The Nomination

This nomination was received from David Whittaker at Whittaker Fleet Services based in Birmingham, his nomination read “Every time I speak to Adrian, the local officer [when suggesting projects like Camp Wilderness] his passion ,humility, obvious empathy and unstinting determination to make a local difference is infectious and humbling. He talks very vividly about young women from Eastern European countries forced into prostitution, with few options. He relates to me people who by circumstance have fallen through the "net' and crucially need a safe haven to generate confidence for that vital first step back into the commercial world .But Adrian is a realist and pragmatist: no drugs, alcohol or uninvited "guests" are allowed in these havens of warmth and structured generosity. Furthermore the Salvation Army is underpinned by 21st century Christian values, which are very much close to my heart and soul.

About the Charity

Warmley Park School offers provision for pupils aged 3-19 with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties, and those on the Autistic Spectrum. They also cater for pupils with additional needs including sensory impairments and physical disabilities. The school is on a single level and classrooms are organised with an interactive approach for pupils with SLD and PMLD, or a high structure/ low arousal approach for pupils on the Autistic Spectrum.

The Nomination

This nomination was received from Phil Sandles (pictured right), who works in the Holman IT Development Team, said “As Captain of Tracy Park Golf Club this year, myself, the Ladies and Seniors captains are all using the year to raise money for a charity which has had connections to the club for many years. The charity is in fact a school that’s caters for children with disabilities called Warmley Park School. One of the many reasons why we have selected the school is that it is very much a local charity which benefits many families in the area.

At the moment the school is in the process of converting some land (which has been donated by South Glous Council) into an outside camping / socialising / learning centre. The money we are raising will be helping to build and equip this area.
