About the Charity

HOPE for Autism was established by a group of mothers who were unable to access the help they needed for their children in North Lanarkshire. In 2002 HOPE became a registered charity and established a support group for parents and carers.

The Nomination

This nomination was received from TOM Fastfit based in Airdrie, and our intrepid traveller, Jan Lord, made the trip from Manchester to meet the team and present the cheque. Their nomination said that Autism had touched many of their lives and that the charity was the only one in the area that offered support for those needing it.

About the Charity

The Caring For Life projects can basically be broken down into two main areas, housing and daytime activities. The Caring For Life Daytime projects, based at CFL's headquarters on a farm in Cookridge, are very significant in helping vulnerable people to achieve a settled, constructive lifestyle. The two housing projects they run provide support and care for as long as the person wishes and needs. This helps to establish genuine emotional security which many of those in their care will never have known.

The Nomination

This nomination was received from Kate Scollen at Brown and Rose based in Leeds. She said “ We've supported Caring for Life at Brown & Rose for over 10 years and watched the project grow. Our director's wife is a volunteer and they constantly need funding to help with the support provided”.

About the Charity

15th Wallington Scout Group aims to provide a full Scouting programme to young people with additional needs who, for whatever reason, are not able to access Scouting in other Groups. They are a part of The Scout Association and offer 6 to 14 year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to make a positive impact in communities. Their members take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, climbing, cooking, camping, first aid and creating things as well as playing games together, having fun, making friends and experiencing new things. Through these activities they develop skills including teamwork, initiative, communication, self-motivation and commitment.

The Nomination

This nomination was received from Sharon Finch at Silverwing Garage in Croydon. She said “the donation would be used to establish a fund to subsidise the cost of camps for those young people whose families cannot afford to send them to camp, and also to enable the Group to financially support its members to attend larger camps such as national and international camps and Jamborees.

About the Charity

GAIN help people living in the UK and Ireland who have been affected by Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and other associated inflammatory neuropathies. They also provide information to health professionals and facilitate research into these devastating illnesses. Like me, you may never have heard of this syndrome before.

The Nomination

This nomination came in from Quality Cars Milton Keynes, whose owner, Chris, was struck down last year by this debilitating condition. His nomination said “In December 2016 I was struck down with a rare disease called 'Guillain-Barré syndrome' leaving me paralysed from the neck downwards. After months of physio, learning to walk and use my arms, I wanted to get a better understanding of the rare condition, so I turned to GAIN for guidance and support. It would be great to donate to GAIN, to build awareness and help fund research. I feel very fortunate with my recovery time, and can empathise with people who are coping with the long term effects, and believe any donation will help”.

Unfortunately on the day we presented the cheque, Chris was not well enough to meet us so his wife Vicky (pictured left) stepped in to receive the cheque on his behalf.

About the Charity

Breakthrough was incorporated in 2009 to support those who are homeless or facing poverty.

Breakthrough took on the responsibility of managing the Day Centre in Trowbridge in November 2015. This provides a vital service to the homeless. For two days per week, we provide; a place to get out of the cold, get something to eat & drink, a listening ear and a chat, advice on the various issues that our service-users may face.

We hope to develop our services in the near future. We would provide improved meal options, private consultation rooms, showers and washing & drying facilities.

The Nomination

The nomination was received from Ozzie Mounty a member of the Holman team who volunteers at Breakthrough on a regular basis.

Update

Following the last communication, we attended the Julia's House Hospice Golf Day held at Dudsbury Golf Club, Bournemouth. The team made up from three Holman staff members and one from the Masterserve garage network, had an enjoyable day which helped to raise in excess of £23000 pounds across the whole event.
