The Masterserve Foundation exists to raise charitable donations from members of the Masterserve Network and Holman will distribute these donations to regional charities related to Social Aid and Development, and Healthcare.
The Masterserve Foundation committee is thrilled and excited to announce the recipients of the second quarter awards totalling a staggering £17730.
Layla Jane Pitt Remembrance Trust - £4787.13
About the Charity
To support families coping with the loss of a child, by provision of therapeutic resources to statutory and charitable organisations.To support work with life limited children and the families of life limited children being undertaken by other agencies, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool, and Hope House Children’s Hospice, Shropshire. Plus much more .
The Nomination
Mark Kettle, Owner and Director of EAC Telford Ltd, MOT and Service Centre and who are part of the MasterServe Network of independent garages, nominated the charity that was set up in memory of Layla who suffered a terrible brain hemorrhage, and who sadly passed away aged 11 years on 6th August 2008 at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, in Liverpool.
Mark commented "we are delighted to receive the cheque from MasterServe for £4787.13. We think this initiative is priceless. Making somebody's life better gives us a great feeling and the amount we contribute is so small compared to the impact we can have."
He goes onto say. "We chose the charity as it is one close to my heart and because we wanted to support the Trust and to help them continue in the way that Layla always wanted to help others". Mark and Jane Kettle from EAC Telford, and Tim Guidotti from the Masterserve Foundation presented the cheque to Layla’s father, Tristan Pitt.

About the Charity
Sands is the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. We operate throughout the UK, supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby, working to improve the care bereaved parents receive, and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies' lives.
The Nomination
SANDS is the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. Nominated by Holman staff member Adam Carnohan, they operate throughout the UK, supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby, working to improve the care bereaved parents receive, and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies' lives. In 2014, 5558 babies died just before, during or soon after birth. That's over 100 babies every week.
Cathy from SANDS came along to the Holman offices to collect her cheque and said:
"Receiving donations is lovely and very important in the work Sands does. All groups are voluntary and self-funding and so to receive donations means that the support line can run, we can hold important creating memories and memorial events, fund vital training to midwives and most importantly means that we can continue to provide memory boxes to hospitals which are precious to families."
Prospect Hospice - £797.85
About the Charity
Prospect Hospice works within our community in partnership with patients, their families and organisations to provide and influence excellent care, support and understanding at the end of life.
The Nomination
Lee Palmer from Holman in Chippenham nominated a Charity close to his heart following the death of a family member in 2015. Lee said in his nomination, "I'd like to nominate the Prospect Hospice in Swindon, the support they give to terminally ill patients is remarkable and they rely solely on donations to keep the doors open. My Wife's Grandmother recently passed away. Had she not had the support from the Prospect Hospice, her last few months with us could have been a lot less bearable than they were."
Lee presented the Foundation cheque to Genevieve Arney from the Prospect Hospice.
Chrysalis Youth & Community Project - £2393.56
About the Charity
Chrysalis Youth & Community Project is a multi-award winning charity that works with communities throughout the Wakefield District and North Yorkshire. We provide work based training, alternative education programmes and volunteering opportunities to a wide range of people.
The Nomination
Holman were thrilled to get a nomination from their Masterserve Network member, The Airedale Car Clinic. The Airedale Car Clinic is a Social Enterprise that is owned by the charity 'Chrysalis Youth & Community Project' with 100% of the profits from The Airedale Car Clinic being returned back to the charity to help meet its aims and objectives.
The Project works with disadvantaged young people throughout the Wakefield area, providing work based training, education, volunteering opportunities, and positive activities, to enable young people into work or further education.
Stuart from the Airedale Car Clinic said, "All of the staff are overjoyed at being selected. The money is going towards the 'Friday Night' club and will make a massive difference to the young people who regularly attend the club." Stuart and his team were presented with the cheque by Jan Lord from the Masterserve Foundation.
Flintshire Deaf Children's Society - £4787.13
About the Charity
Flintshire Deaf Childrens Society is run by a group of parents who have deaf or hard of hearing children. We offer help and support as well as drawing on our own experiences, to help and assist with deaf life.
The Nomination
Masterserve Network garage member Meister John Roberts nominated The Flintshire Deaf Children’s Society. Foundation representatives Jan Lord and John Barks attended their family fun day in aid of the charity to present the Foundation cheque for £4787.13.
Their nomination stated, "This charity was set up with the concept of helping families of deaf children as there was no support in the local area for deaf children or their families. The success of the charity and its work has now led it to cover the majority of North Wales. The charity also works together with local authorities and health professionals to ensure a high standard of care is given.
We are proud to be associated with the charity and watching it grow has been a remarkable thing to see. On a more personal level, they stated "One of our members of staff has a deaf child, now 6, who has been involved with the charity since it started. To watch that child grow in confidence, gain his speech and become a very sociable child, not only within the deaf community, but in the hearing world as well, has brought us great joy."
Beatson Cancer Charity - £2393.56
About the Charity
Beatson Cancer Charity is determined to beat cancer and is committed to securing significant funding to support and enhance the treatment, care and wellbeing of current, former and future cancer patients and their families.
The Nomination
Allan Timmins from Swinton Vehicle Repair Centre based in Glasgow, contacted the Foundation to nominate The Beatson Cancer Charity, a charity close to his heart after they had given a close family member some much needed support and optimism. Allan went on to say, "we had a customer in our reception when the presentation was taking place that had received treatment on more than one occasion at the Beatson, and thought it was an excellent choice of charity to support". The Foundation awarded a cheque for £2393.56.
National Charity
Each year the Masterserve Foundation will support a national charity. This year it is the
British Heart Foundation . A long term customer of Holman who by default, also has a long association with the Masterserve garage network. They will receive an annual award which will accrue each quarter and be awarded in October 2016.
